Keeping Europe on the Move

Mobility for Prosperity in Europe is active in a series of subjects linked to the European Transport Agenda which influence the ability of European citizens to move freely and undistorted within the EU. Currently, there are several topics on our agenda:

The White Paper on the Future of Transport 2011 – 2020
In June 2009, the European Commission released its Communication on the Future of Transport. MPE contributed to the public consultation organised by the Commission. Our statement can be downloaded here. Moreover, the future of transport and in particular the upcoming White Paper, which is expected to be published in December 2010 were the focus of the past two MPE Dinner Debates.

TEN-T
MPE is currently working on a contribution to the public consultation on the questions of TEN-T planning and implementation following the adoption of the Commission Working Document - Consultation on the Future Trans-European Transport Network Policy on 4 May 2010. The Consultation is open until 15 September 2010.

ITS – Intelligent Transport Systems
On 16 December 2008, the European Commission took a major step towards the deployment and use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in road transport. The Action Plan adopted suggests a number of targeted measures and a proposal for a Directive laying down the framework for their implementation. ITS can significantly contribute to a cleaner, safer and more efficient transport system. The goal is to create the momentum necessary to speed up market penetration of rather mature ITS applications and services in Europe.

Urban Mobility Action Plan
The European Commission adopted the Action Plan on Urban Mobility on 30 September 2009. The Action Plan proposes twenty measures to encourage and help local, regional and national authorities in achieving their goals for sustainable urban mobility. With the Action Plan, the European Commission presents for the first time a comprehensive support package in the field of urban mobility. On 24 June 2010, the Council of the EU published its Conclusions on the Action Plan.
